Recipe: The Brandy Man

How often do you get a song stuck in your head, looping for hours or even days on end? For me it happens so often that my life’s soundtrack would be like the Arnold Schwarzenegger box set.

I’ve spent the whole week “screaming from the top of my lungs, what’s going on? And saying hey, hey, hey, what’s going on?” It was a “revolution”. (4 Non Blondes)

Well the channel has changed. We’ve switched from depressing institutions to chocolate-coated sparkles and rainbows. I just think it could be a little less daggy.

The main thing is that “the candy man can”. Now if I maintain the positive then The Brandy Man can too. Actually, I imagine that what the candy man can do the brandy man could do better.


  • 6 parts organic soy milk
  • 2 parts brandy
  • 2 parts cinnamon syrup (see note)
  • 1 part banana liqueur
  • 1 part maple vodka


Add all ingredients to blender and whiz. Transfer to shaker over ice and shake to chill. Strain into tall glass over fresh ice cubes.

Note: to pre-make cinnamon syrup, add 1 cup water and 3 cinnamon sticks to a small saucepan. Bring to the boil; reduce to simmer for 10 minutes. Add ½ cup caster sugar and stir over low heat til dissolved. Remove from heat, cool and strain into glass container for storage. Makes approx 200ml.
