Smitten Kitten

I’ve never been a big milk drinker. Well, apparently that’s not completely true.

People tell me my parents almost needed to invest in a dairy farm to offset the costs of from truckloads of milk I drank as a toddler. Perhaps that’s an insight into the reason I don’t like milk now. Maybe I just overdid it then, like I did on Blue Illusions at age 18. Yep, two things I’ll probably never drink again.

Anyway, where was this going? Oh yes… So I’m not really a creamy cocktail kind of gal. I tend to go for clean, dry drinks myself.

However, in my mission to get in rhythm with this autumn cocktail thing, I’m branching out. And I don’t mind a bit of almond or soy, so I thought I’d try making a variation on the classic New Orleans cocktail, the Milk Punch, using the bottle of Canadian Maple Vodka my brother gave me as a gift plus a banana, because we all love a smoothie.

Have to say I was pretty impressed with the result!

Hump Day Happy Hour

  • 30 ml bourbon
  • 30 ml maple vodka
  • 100 ml chilled almond milk
  • ½ ripe banana
  • 1 egg white
  • 5 ml agave syrup
  • 1 pinch of Himalayan pink rock salt

Add all ingredients to a blender and whiz for 30 seconds or so. Transfer to a short glass over ice cubes.
