Hello World, Halloween
Halloween. I don’t mind a pumpkin or two and this Southbank bar has decorated in cobwebs, ghosts and pumpkins for All Hallows’ Eve. It makes sense because World Bar has a globally inspired theme. The styling is not OTT, in fact it’s quite tastefully done and just enough to be in the spirit of things.
On a Friday night, the corporate army flocks to World Bar for end of week work drinks. It’s as much a tradition for Southbank’s office crowd as Halloween itself in some countries. And tonight, even though it’s the official night of death and ghoul, there’s no crazy costumes, just a lot of suits.
A band plays live music and the Yarra River glistens to the beat of Melbourne’s skyline on this warm spring night. It is picturesque on the banks of the river in the city’s Southgate precinct and the place is a buzz.
World Bar Cocktails
World Bar does good cocktails including share jugs, like Pimms and Sangria, which are great for warmer evenings or for group drinks. Share jugs are excellent value if you’re looking for nice cocktails without the scary prices and they’re becoming a popular choice at Melbourne bars. The standard cocktail menu at World has a good selection of classic and original cocktails, but you’ll be spoilt for choice weeknights with $10 happy hour cocktails Monday to Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. with its own special cocktail menu!
I tried the Lucky in Kentucky. With bourbon, ginger-flavoured liqueur, cranberry, honey, limejuice and mint, served in a jar and garnished with mint, this drink was a blood curdling red colour. All round a spectacular drink!
