G&Tea Gin Garden
Deep down I always knew there was something missing from the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party. Derr, the Gin! I mean, surely an unbirthday party isn’t really an unbirthday party without gin.
Opening just three days ago, Melbourne’s newest gin bar is something very special and unexpected. High tea and gin cocktails – genius!
Situated near the corner of Brunswick St & Kerr St Fitzroy, G&Tea Gin Garden is a truly lovely, feminine space – fresh, pastel and pretty. Head through the white picket fence, down the rabbit hole and into the open, airy garden where the pink flamingos dance and the flowers are in bloom. It’s the perfect place to be on a stunning summer day and the ideal setting for an afternoon gathering with the girls.
Sitting by the window I was taken by the contrast between the roughness of the outside compared to the softness of the inside. We all love the grunginess of Fitzroy. The location made G&Tea all the more intriguing.
“We’re all quite mad here, you’ll fit right in.”
– The Mad Hatter
Don’t expect pretentiousness here. It’s not that kind of place. You’ll be greeted with a smile and good service. You’ll be spoken to politely and enthusiastically, not with the typical hipster moan and mumble we’ve come to expect. Don’t expect normal either, these guys are a little quirky and inspired. Be ready for a little madness. This is Melbourne’s newest happy place.
With a bar headed up by award winning cocktail bartender Andy Griffiths, you’d expect the cocktails to be good. Mixing drinks from a reserve of 70 different gins from around the globe, G&Tea has three pages of masterful cocktails to choose from, including G & Teas, Gin Cocktails and Share Jugs.
Team up an amazing bar team with the skills of Melbourne chef Laura Rosadoni and you get magic. High tea is served on unique, made to order, one-off towers specially sourced through Etsy. Love is in the details.
Mouth-watering handmade canapés lovingly styled and garnished with a delicate sprinkle of edible flowers. There are no words to describe the deliciousness of everything I ate off this platter. Topped off with a ceramic duck filled with earl grey negroni, the ultimate aperitif, Alice really was in wonderland.
The jugs are out and sharing is caring. A superb cocktail jug mixed with Tanqueray Gin, Lillet Rose, jarred fruit & rose tea maceration.
Sweet, but not so innocent, it’s as cheeky as it is pretty. Mixed with Hayman’s Sloe Gin tang, Maidenii Sweet Vermouth fruits, pressed citrus, eggwhite & soda.
